3- Bring water to the pond
It will be necessary to provide a water supply to fill it
This arrival should be closest to the water source and placed at the high end of your pond
The arrival can be made of a bamboo or a plastic pipe (photo).
It should be long enough to cross the upper part of the dike, so a pipe about 3m long.
Dig a gap in the pond dike where you want to arrange the finish. This must be a little above the water level inside the pond and a little below the water level coming from the source.
Place the inlet pipe in the hole of the pond dike and reform the dike over it.
You can also open a shallow trench in the dike to let the water in.
You can improve this system by preventing the trench from being washed away by lining the bottom with a corrugated iron plate.
You can also build a lock in the trench to control the flow of water into the pond.
A lock has two walls, one on each side of the channel and a floor placed in the bottom of the channel. Slots are practical in the walls to hold boards or a rack.
The boards are placed in the slots to prevent water from getting into the pond, or removed to let the water in. When filling the pond, put a grill or net to prevent unwanted fish from entering.
You can build a lock made of wood or brick.
